FRUIT
According to Oxford Dictionaries, a fruit is defined as “The sweet and fleshy product of a tree or other plant that contains seeds and can be eaten as food.” Botanically speaking, a fruit is a seed-bearing structure that develops from the ovary of a flowering plant.
EACH FRUIT FALLS INTO A CATEGORY, NAMELY:
• Drupe: drupes consist of fleshy fruits that have a single seed with a hard endocarp. E.g. peaches and olives.
• Berry: berries contain many seeds. E.g. tomatoes and cucumbers.
• Aggregate fruit: these develop from one flower with many pistils. E.g. strawberries.
